Darrin Monroe and David Moncrief are thankful for what the computer generation has done for the printing industry. Paper never met the predictions of its demise and remains in great demand today, so business is busier than ever at Tree House Pad & Paper. It’s one reason why the owners just added another paper cutter from Colter & Peterson.
A reconditioned 60” Lawson unit outfitted with a Microcut® automated back gauge system was installed in mid-April. It is the fifth trimmer the company has purchased from C&P in the last 10 years. Tree House manufactures school, home and office use stationery paper products that are sold by many of the largest mass market retailers.
“We added the 60” Lawson because our business has increased, and the cutter has lived up to our expectations. I’ve known Bruce Peterson since he bought a local company more than 10 years ago. He serviced all of our paper cutters before we started buying them from him,” recalled Monroe, VP at Tree House which opened its doors for business in 1998. The business has grown and now operates two shifts five days a week at two locations in Corona, CA, located east of Los Angeles.
“We also purchased from Colter & Peterson a 54” Lawson and three Seybold units that range from 54” to 61”, informed Monroe. “They fit well with our primary paper product sizes, which range from as small as 3” x 3” up to 24” x 36”. We print and cut stationery pads and tablets, as well as industrial grade (packaging and moving/storage) and some color copy paper.”
The newest Lawson cutter – like the other four at Tree House – includes a Microcut® computer guided back gauge system. Completely automated, Microcut memorizes cut sequences and guides the back gauge to make each precise cut. It also provides outstanding safety benefits that were important to Monroe.
“It was a key selling point for us. Having Microcut makes our paper cutters very safe and easy for our people to operate,” said Monroe, who indicated that servicing is another essential point considering Tree House relies on them for two shifts a day, often six days a week.
“We have C&P service them every month and they’re available to troubleshoot anytime we need them. They do a very good job, they stand behind their products, and it’s good to know they are in our corner.”
