MICROCIP Software Brings
New Life to Paper Cutters

Since the development of its innovative MICROCIP software in 2005, C&P Microsystems, a division of Colter & Peterson, has simplified operations for many paper cutters in use today by providing CIP 3/4 capability either as a retrofit or as an integrated OEM package.

The MICROCIP software, which won a 2006 PIA/GATF InterTech Technology Award, allows the importation and conversion of standardized CIP 3/4 files into cutting programs for almost every paper cutter in existence. Users can integrate the software into their company’s existing network, allowing for easy transfer of CIP files and automatic entry of basic programming data. MICROCIP software is available as part of C&P Microsystems’ operating systems for certain new paper cutters or the company can install it as an upgrade for older machines.

Upgrade Older Cutters

One of the most significant advantages of this technology is the ability to upgrade older paper cutters. This eliminates the need to replace an existing piece of equipment that is performing well in order to integrate new technology. MICROCIP is provided as part of C&P Microsystems’ paper cutter automation software and does not require any special hardware or additional software. Compatible units connect through industry standard Ethernet cables.

With the ever growing need to become more efficient in the industry, the implementation of MICROCIP technology can dramatically increase the productivity and at the same time significantly reduce potential errors in the paper cutter programming process.

Here’s how the MICROCIP technology works:

  • With MICROCIP, the operator selects a .ppf file on the control screen from the company’s network, indicates the trim desired (e.g. four side, three side, two side and turn) and the system automatically converts the file into a cutting program.
  • The system creates a graphic image to allow the operator to change guide and gripper orientation if necessary. The operator has the ability to review the job and make any dimensional changes including lay adjustments for the first two cuts.
  • Due to its automatic programming features and easy-to-use graphic interfaces, the software also eliminates errors and reduces set-up time for cutting jobs by at least 50%.
  • Since the program is created directly from the CIP files, any potential error of data entry at the paper cutter is eliminated.
  • The easy integration into the company’s network via industry standard set-ups adds the ability to store and transfer cutting programs between cutting machines.
